How to choose the right size of LED Screen?
Choosing the right LED screen size requires balancing physical space, audience viewing distance, and content resolution. The ideal size relies on three key factors: Distance (how far the audience sits), Aspect Ratio (how content is displayed), and Resolution (the density of the screen's LEDs).
FTV suggests to use this step-by-step framework to calculate the ideal dimensions and specifications:
1. Match Pixel Pitch to Viewing Distance
Pixel pitch is the distance between individual LEDs (measured in millimeters, e.g., P2.5). It determines how close an audience can sit before the image looks pixelated.Formula: Minimum Viewing Distance in Meters = Pixel Pitch × 1 to 3
Rule of Thumb:Every 1 mm of pixel pitch roughly translates to 1 to 3 meters of ideal viewing distance.
2. Determine the LED Screen Dimensions
The Farthest Viewer Rule: The display screen width should generally be about 1/6 of the distance to the farthest seat. For example, if the back row is 24 meters away, your screen should be roughly 4 meters wide.Aspect Ratio: Stick to a 16:9 ratio, which matches standard video content. This avoids black bars, stretching, or cropping. For example, a 4.8 m × 2.7 m (16 ft × 9 ft) led screen works perfectly to scale standard 1080p content.
Custom Ratios: If your installation space is atypical (e.g., a tall, thin column display), you must plan to create custom-tailored content.
3. Consider Modular Sizing and Budget
LED displays are built using smaller cabinets or modules (e.g., 500 × 500mm or 600x337.5mm) rather than being cut to a specific size like a TV. Total screen size must be a multiple of these panel dimensions.Budget Trade-off: A larger led screen wall with a smaller pixel pitch delivers the sharpest image, but costs significantly more.
4. Adjust for Environment and Content
Indoor vs. Outdoor: Indoor video walls need lower brightness (600–1,500 nits), while outdoor setups need 4,000+ nits and weatherproofing. For tips on how to properly set the aspect ratio and ensure content fits seamlessly, welcome to consult your Ftv contacts.
